Traces

Adding a new trace to a project can be done in multiple ways as listed:

  • Start a recording
  • Ask a colleague to record trace
  • Build diagram

Build diagram

A new trace can be created manually by creating a diagram from scratch using Build diagram.

  1. In the diagram window, select + Add trace.
  2. From the drop-down list, select Build diagram.
  3. A new trace is created, and you can manually add a step, decision point, or link a step to an existing step.

Start a recording

By starting a recording to add a new trace, the Task Mining recorder opens up, and you can start recording your new trace as described here:

  1. In the diagram window, select + Add trace.
  2. From the drop-down list, select Start recording.
  3. Task Mining client opens up, and you can start recording your process.
  4. After finishing the recording, a new trace is available in your project.

Excel in traces

With the unified recorder, you can populate information or insight into how you are completing actions within Excel. This way you gain insight on exactly where is it possible to automate within Excel actions.

In the visualizer, you can now have data for workbook titles where actions were performed. This helps you in having the workbook name clearly populated in your trace.

The same also applies to sheet name within the same workbook.

The most common scenarios of copying and pasting through clipboard are the following:
