Outlook Troubleshooting

Microsoft Office Displays Warnings That a Program Is Trying to Access Email

When you execute automation projects that use Outlook data, Microsoft Outlook may frequently display warnings stating that a program is trying to access email address information or send messages on your behalf, prompting you to allow access every time.

This issue may occur if you don't have an antivirus installed or if your antivirus is not up-to-date. To prevent these messages from being displayed, do one of the following:

  • Install an antivirus software, enable antivirus protection, and keep the antivirus up-to-date.
  • If you can't install an antivirus or the messages are still displayed even with an antivirus, change the Programmatic Access Security setting in Outlook:

    1. Log in to Windows using an account with administrator permissions. Only administrators can change this setting.
    2. Open Outlook, click File, and then click Options.
    3. In the Outlook Options window, click Trust Center, and then click Trust Center Settings.
    4. In the Trust Center window, click Programmatic Access, and then select the option Never warn me about suspicious activity (not recommended) to disable the warning messages.
    5. Click OK twice.

Automations Do Not Process All the Emails in Your Mailbox

When you execute automation projects that use Outlook data, some of the emails in your mailbox may not be processed by the automation.

This issue occurs in the following scenario:

  • You are using Outlook 2013 or later with an Exchange Server mailbox.
  • The feature Cached Exchange Mode is enabled for the email account.
  • Cached Exchange Mode is configured to download only emails received after a certain date.

StudioX can process the emails in the local Outlook data file. If, for example, Outlook is configured to download emails received in the last 6 months, emails older than 6 months reside only on the server.

To increase the number of emails that can be used in automations, configure Outlook to download older emails. For more information, see the Microsoft documentation.
