Clipboard AI User Guide

Pasting in templates

This capability allows you to populate existing PowerPoint and Word templates with data from your source document.

Prerequisites

Prior to using the Paste in templates option, you need to have the templates ready. Clipboard AI currently support PowerPoint and Word files.

Placeholders in templates

Clipboard AI supports PowerPoint (PPT) and Word (DOC) templates. To use this feature effectively, you must include placeholders in your template. These placeholders tell Clipboard AI where to insert data from your source document. Placeholders can represent both text and images.

A placeholder is enclosed in double brackets, as follows: {{placeholder}}. Clipboard AIrecognizes this format and fills these fields with the corresponding data from your source document. This process ensures that:

  • No unnecessary rows are added

  • The original slide layout is maintained

Clipboard AI intelligently populates the placeholders with the appropriate information, preserving the structure and design of your template.

Experiment with placeholders: insert a word, a sentence, or more complex expressions such as {{ name for each team member as table }} to automatically generate a slide for each team member in your presentation.

Multiple pages in templates

When the source document contains multiple data sets that match the placeholders, Clipboard AI creates a new page in the template for each set of data.

Image extraction

Image extraction happens on your device, as images are not sent to the server for processing. By default, the option is disabled.

To include images in your templates, you need to:

  1. Indicate the location of the image in your template by using a placeholder such as {{image}}.

  2. In Clipboard AI Settings, select the Enable image extraction checkbox. The Enable image extraction option is automatically enabled. By deafult, the option is

  3. Optionally, to filter what images are extracted from your data source based on images dimensions, provide minimum values for image height and width, in pixels. If you want to extract all images from the source document, deselect the Enable image filtering checkbox.

Example: Pasting real-estate brochures information into a PowerPoint template

As a real-estate agent, you need to extract property information from multiple brochures to a PowerPoint template. You are interested in the following data:

  • Building name

  • Building address

  • Surface

  • Rental rate

  • Building image

Here's how you can use Clipboard AI and Paste in templates to streamline your work:

  1. Step 1: Prepare your PowerPoint template:

    • Create a PowerPoint template with placeholders for each piece of data:

      • {{ building name }}

      • {{ address }}

      • {{ surface }}

      • {{ rate }}

      • {{ image }}

        It could look something like in the following image:

        Example of a PPT template slide with placeholders
  2. Step 2: Open the brochure, which is the the data source. It must have one of the supported formats: DOC, PDF, and PPT.

  3. Step 3: Use Clipboard AI:
    • Open Clipboard AI and your property brochure.

    • Select Copy Window with the brochure in focus.

    • The brochure appears in the Clipboard AI toolbar.

  4. Step 4: Enable image extraction to allow Clipboard AI to paste images in your template, where the {{image}} placeholder is located.
    • Go to Clipboard AI Settings > Templates > Enable image extraction.

    • Provide values for minimum height and width, to instruct Clipboard AI to look for images of a minimum dimension.

    • To select all images, regardless of their dimension, deselect the Enable image filtering.

  5. Step 5: Populate the template:

    • From the Paste dropdown, you select Paste in template.

    • Select the PowerPoint template file.

    • From the mapper, you can see the extracted images and which ones to paste.
    • Clipboard AI identifies the placeholders data (building name, address, surface area, rental rate, and image) and populates the template.

  6. Step 6: Access the presentation:

    • You find your completed presentation in the UiPath Clipboard AI Files folder in your Documents directory. By default, ClipboardAI creates this folder in your C:\Users\<user>\Documents directory.
