Introduction
UiPath® Document UnderstandingTM provides a variety of pre-defined solutions designed to help you extract and classify information from common document types. These solutions are built on a set of pre-trained models specifically trained to extract information from a standard set of document types. Combined with our pre-built industry templates, they can handle typical use cases with minimal configuration.
For a complete list of pre-built models, check the Out-of-the-box pre-trained ML packages.
However, if our pre-built solutions don't meet your requirements or if you want to refine one of our existing models, you can use our model training experience based on active learning to create your own custom Document Understanding solution.

Document Understanding provides a set of AI-based solutions for document processing. These solutions include classification and extraction. To learn more about how to configure and build your own custom Document Understanding solution, follow the instructions from the Building models section of this guide.
Once you have trained, tested, and deployed your Document Understanding models, you can create an automation using them. You have the option to use either our robotic process automation (RPA) activities or APIs. To determine which set of activities is best suited for your particular use case, and to learn how to select them, check the Consuming models page.
We offer Document UnderstandingTM via different delivery models: Automation CloudTM, Automation Suite. Each delivery model has specific advantages.
- Automation CloudTM is a web-based platform that allows task execution from any location, offering immediate access to the latest features and updates.
- Automation Suite, an integrated software package installed on-premises, provides an advanced level of control and robust data handling. This is suitable for environments that demand a higher degree of data discretion.
